For Eating Right/Fewer Calories:
- Just because something is low in calories doesnt mean it isnt fatty. Avoid fried or greasy foods no matter what the calories are.
- Want something low cal that will fill you up? Hot chocolate. The instant packets range from 20 calories to 150 calories.
- Never eat anything bigger than your fist; you’ll only stretch your stomach otherwise. Train your tummy to settle for less.
- Get a calorie tracking app. If you don't have an iPod/iPhone/iPad, you can go on sites like myfitnesspal.com and make an account. If you're aware of how many calories you're eating daily, then you'll be less likely to binge.
- Take a sip of water or other calorie-free liquid between each bite. You feel full much faster.
- Never eat in secret. This is the worst habit to get into.
- Eat half and throw the rest away. You wont eat anything out of the garbage. Or, if you can afford to waste food, make yourself the food (in order to give yourself the satisfaction of making and preparing it) and then throw it away. Down the sink or straight smack in the garbage work best.
- The French’s Trick… Take 3 bites of everything on your plate and that is it… taste it all, savor those bites and finish.
- Get some water and put a zero-calorie sweetner (Like MiO or Crystal Light liquid) in it, then put it in the freezer. It fills you up and is zero calories. The coldness of the water/popsicle will help to burn calories, too.
- Always make sure your dog is near when eating dinner in front of the family! Slip food to your dog when parents arent looking.
- Make a goal of how many calories you want to eat per meal. If you go over, punish yourself by skipping the next meal altogether.
- If you're really hungy, chew but dont swallow! Most people are just hungry for the taste.
- (Low calorie) soup and rice (I've found Uncle Bens 170 calories cups) fill you up for only a small fraction of calories.
- Try energy bars and fiber tablets. They give you nutrients and keep you healthy, only for a few calories.
- Its better to not eat than binge and purge. Instead of eating a lot and throwing up, eat 100 calorie snacks.
- Slimful bars are my personal favorite. So far I've only tried the orange (which I thought was pretty nasty) and the chocolate (which tasted like a tootsie roll), and I looooved the chocolate. Each bar is only 90 calories and with a glass of water, it fills you for four or more hours.
For Avoiding Cravings:
- If you have a retainer, wear it! Its such a hassle to take it out every time you eat that you wont want to, and therefore wont eat.
- Go somewhere food is not allowed, like an auditorium, classroom, or clothing store.
- Whenever you get bad hunger pains, curl up in a ball. It really helps to get rid of them.
- Try not to stay in one place too long, it may cause you to get bored and think about food.
- Hide all binge-worthy foods or put them in high to reach places to lower temptation.
- A heating pad on the stomach helps to soothe cramps caused by hunger pains.
- Keep a rubber band on your wrist and snap it every time you get a craving. The constant pain will be a reminder of not to eat.
- If you get a craving or temptation to eat, simply count to 100. Chances are by the time you finish, the craving will pass or you will be distracted.
For Hiding Eating Habits:
- If your mom packs a lot of stuff for lunch (like mine) offer friends food throughout the day and not just at lunch. It's a lot less suspicious than giving away all of your food at lunch.
- Only eat with someone watching, it stops suspicion if people see you eating but there is no point otherwise.
- I ask for 3 of these http://www.pierogies.com/retail/products/product.aspx?product=022 … pierogies for dinner, only 170 calories and my parents dont suspect a thing.
- Always make sure your dog is near when eating dinner in front of the family! Slip food to your dog when parents arent looking.
- If possible, say you picked up something to eat on the way to/back from work, ate at a friend's house, or even go for a long walk/jog and tell them you had a slice of pizza while you were out.
For Losing Weight Quickly:
- Don't fast constantly! It puts your body into starvation mode, and you lose less fat that way.
- A daily routine to help you achieve a thigh gap: 10 toe touches (while standing), 20 lunges, 30 squats, 40 jumping jacks, 50 second toe touch (while sitting), 60 second wall sit. Repeat daily for best results.
- Sleeping burns anywhere from 30-50 calories an hour. Sleeping for at least six hours a night helps burn plenty of calories.
- To lose around one pound a day, limit your calorie intake to about 100. Do 100 crunches and 200 leg lifts every night. Take at least two long walks and exercise as often as possible.
- DO NOT take laxatives. They only flush the food out that you've already digested and therefore, don't help you lose fat. They're painful, irritating, and actually make you appear bloated, giving off the appearance that you've gained weight. Definitely a no-no.
- Only eat with someone watching, it stops suspicion if people see you eating but there is no point otherwise.
- Never eat anything bigger than your fist; you’ll only stretch your stomach otherwise. Train your tummy to settle for less.
- Eat standing up or move around. Do anything to burn those extra calories, even if it is just a few.
- Never eat in secret. This is the worst habit to get into.
- Make it a goal to work out once a day at least. I do 40 jumping jacks, 30 crunches, 20 squats, and 10 pushups at least once. It burns around 40 calories per cycle.
- Always take the stairs.
For Burning Calories Without Really Trying
- Sleep at least 6 hours a night. Less than 6 hours stimulates appetite by 15%.
- Sit up straight; you’ll burn at least 10% more calories.
- Eat on a black or navy blue plate, you’ll eat less.
- Lower the temperature in your house by 10 degrees, to burn more calories, even if it isn't a large calorie burn overall.
- Drink ice water! Your body burns calories trying to heat itself up.
- Either bring no jacket with you somewhere or an extremely heavy one (unless it's actually freezing winter outside, then you have to wear it). If you bring a too-heavy/warm jacket, you'll be too hot in it and therefore will take it off. Then you can have the satisfaction of burning more calories due to crisp, cool air.
On Not Breaking Fasts
- When fasting, your two best friends are water and gum.
- Do not cheat yourself. Even a spoonful of peanut butter is cheating on your fast. Accept when you break fasts & punish yourself.
- Diet sodas should always be in hand. If you get hungry grab it and sit down with a good magazine.
- Try not to stay in one place too long, it may cause you to get bored and think about food.
- Diet soda makes you feel slightly bloated (like you ate) but have zero calories and will flush right through you, as they're liquid.
Avoiding Food When With Friends
- When going out to a party, put on lip gloss, and because you're afraid of smudging it so much, you're less likely to eat.
- If you go to the movies, make sure you have plenty of water and diet soda. While your friends are munching away on buttery, fattening popcorn, have the satisfaction of not consuming a single thing.
- If you go to the mall and your friends stop for smoothies/drinks, go to the nearest vending machine and buy water or a zero-calorie diet soda instead. The soda will fill you up more, but the water is healthier.
- Try not to go to the mall if possible. Malls have food courts which will cause you to binge. Go to an outlet or somewhere with clothing stores but no food stands.
Other Motivation
- Just remember in 20 seconds that junk food will be gone, the taste will be gone, and all you will be left with is regret.
- If you can pinch it, you can lose it.
- Those times you want to binge SO badly, just remember the weight you'll gain from it. You're better off not eating.
- That fat will last longer than the flavor.
- Remember: Your stomach isn't growling. It's applauding. Keep going.
- Don't eat. The satisfaction is only temporary. You know how you feel after eating. Don't do it.
